Headstocks break more often than you might think. It sometimes doesn’t take much: The guitar leans against an amp, somebody walks by and accidentally bumps into it. It tips over, and from the impact, the headstock breaks off. In this case here, it came off completely.

First, I glued the head back on. Because the glued surfaces were rather small, I had to reinforce the damaged area. Therefore I routed two channels inside the back of the neck.

Then I made two pieces of mahogany and glued them into the channels. The inserted pieces had then to be planed and filed to fit the neck without altering its shape.

Next I applied a couple of coats of clear finish onto the damaged area.

At last, I tinted the clear spots red and then applied a coat of finish onto the whole neck.

Now she’s ready to rock again.
