Lackieren

Nach viel Schleifarbeit ist der Bass bereit zum Lackieren:
Das Griffbrett wird abgedeckt und die erste Schicht Lack wird gespritzt.

Nach dem Trocknen wird des Lack angeschliffen und die nächste Schicht aufgetragen.

Nachdem die Poren gefüllt sind, was bei Esche als Korpusholz relativ lange dauert, wird die Farbe aufgetragen, danach der Decklack. Ist dieser genug trocken uns ausgehärtet, wird er mit feinem Schleifpapier angeschliffen und danach poliert.

Das alles tönt nicht nach viel, ist aber ein Haufen Arbeit, die einige Wochen in Anspruch nimmt.

Shaping und fretting the bass neck

Shaping the neck is one of the most challenging but also most rewarding tasks in the process of making an instrument. Everything is done by hand and you’re sure to have sore wrists and fingers from using chisels, planes, rasps, files and sandpaper once you’re done.

But feeling the smooth and curved surface with all its different radiuses and shapes which some hours before was nothing but a rough chunk of wood always puts a smile on my face.
